Karisma
Kapoor or popularly known as “Lolo” in the Bollywood is an actress who
has produced multiple hit films like Raja Hindustani, Biwi No. 1, Raja
Babu etc.
Karishma Kapoor was born on June 25th,
1974 in the popular Bollywood “Kapoor” family to Randhir Kapoor, an
actor popular during the 1970s and 80s era of bollywood, and
actress Babita in Mumbai. Karisma Kapoor is the granddaughter of actor
and filmmaker Raj Kapoor
Karisma Kapoor made her bollwood debut with the Prem Qaidi
(1991) which did not do well on the box office but helped Karisma to
come under Bollywood light. Soon next year, she featured in many movies
like Jigar (1992), Raja Babu (1994), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996) and Jeet (1996) and her work was appreciated by the B-Town critics.
Raja Hindustani (1996) where
Karisma was casted against Amir Khan became a popular hit of the year
and went on to be the highest grossing film of the year and the film
gained cult following.
Karisma’s role of Fiza, a girl looking for her brother post 1993 Mumbai riots, in Fiza (2000) was much criticalliy acclaimed. So was the portrayal of her role in Shakti: The Power. She then starred in Baaz: A Bird In Danger (2003) which failed to impress the audience at the box-office.
Karisma was romantically involved with
her co-star Ajay Devgan for few years. However, after the couples split,
she got engaged to Abhishek Bachchan but the engagement was called off
in 2003. Karisma married Sanjay Kapur, a businessman in 2005 with whom
she has a daughter Samaira.
